Description

At Fabric, we enable retailers and brands to profitably scale both their online and brick-and-mortar businesses with a high-density, high-throughput automated fulfillment platform. Our proprietary, software-driven robotics power a micro-fulfillment solution that increases fulfillment capacity, ensures accuracy, and meets growing consumer demands. Fabric’s platform supports e-commerce fulfillment in distribution centers, back-of-store fulfillment, and B2B replenishment, allowing brands to manage costs while delivering a branded experience that strengthens customer relationships.

Guided by our core values—leadership, accountability, one team, excellence, and customer centricity—our team strives to master the “fulfillment symphony” and achieve greatness. Founded in 2015, Fabric has raised $338 million to date and is backed by Aleph, Corner Ventures, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), Evolv (Kraft Heinz), Innovation Endeavors, La Maison, Playground Ventures, and Temasek.

Robotics Hardware Team Leader

We are seeking an experienced hands-on Hardware Team Leader to oversee a talented team of electrical engineers within Fabric’s robotics group.

The role involves leading the development of the electrical systems for Fabric’s robots, including system design, board design, wiring design, certification testing (UL, CE), and fault investigations.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in board design in diverse fields and experience in bringing a product from the requirements stage to production and beyond, with the passion and skills to successfully lead a team to solve difficult problems.

Fabric’s robotics group consists of a diverse group of professionals including Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Embedded Engineers, Software developers, and Testing engineers - all working together to design, develop, and deploy a fleet of robots that power Fabric’s robotic fulfillment centers.

What you’ll do:

  • Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of electrical engineers and programmers, providing guidance, support, and mentorship. Identify training needs and provide coaching to enhance technical skills while fostering a culture of learning and professional development within the team.
  • Hardware Architecture and Design: Develop and maintain hardware solutions for new and existing robots, products, or challenges. Ensure hardware design adheres to best practices and supports scalability and maintainability. Conduct design reviews and enforce engineering standards and best practices.
  • Project Management: Manage timelines, resources, and priorities for multiple projects. Track project progress and ensure deliverables are met on time and within budget. Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other teams within the robotics group (such as the embedded software, and mechanical engineering teams) and throughout Fabric (such as the Engineering and Logistics teams). Communicate effectively with stakeholders to understand requirements and provide technical insights.
  • Fault analysis and response: Lead your team or a squad of engineers from multiple teams in the analysis of faults, finding root causes, and designing short-term mitigation plans and long-term solutions.
Requirements

Who you are:

  • B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering.
  • 6+ years of industry experience in mixed-signal board design, covering architecture, design, and methodology.
  • 3+ years of technical design management experience.
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary projects and design high-density, multi-layer PCBs.
  • Expert in power delivery and high-speed design.
  • Skilled in balancing trade-offs between power, performance, manufacturability, thermals, and cost.
  • Proficient in schematic design using OrCAD, Allegro, and Altium.
  • Experienced in leading formal design reviews as part of product development.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills to align teams, resolve conflicts, and mentor engineers.
  • Skilled in leading fault investigations, designing solutions and leading implementations.

Advantages:

  • M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering or adjacent field
  • Experience with robotics or other industries that require
  • Experience with driver boards for “Servo” motors (permanent magnet EC motors) and stepper motors with encoders.
  • Experience in embedded systems programming, either hands on or tight collaboration with embedded programmers.
  • Technical skills in theoretical analysis and design.
  • Experience in lab certification for UL and CE tests.
  • Experience with the STM and Variscite variants of the ARM Cortex family of processors.
